F-IBE — Identity-based encryption
F-IBE (Identity-based encryption) is part of Public-Key Primitives, Key Exchange, Messaging in the UC functionality encyclopedia. Status: an emerging formulation, still an active area of research.
This entry is blocked, and the block is worth stating precisely rather than leaving the page blank. A canonical definition exists; it is located; it could not be read. So this page carries neither a box nor a No canonical definition claim — the latter would be false, and the field on this page is the one value scripts/uc_status.py will not derive precisely because it is an assertion about the literature.
What exists, and where
Nishimaki, Manabe and Okamoto define the ideal functionality of identity-based encryption, \(\mathcal{F}_{\mathsf{IBE}}\), and prove the result that makes it worth transcribing: UC-secure IBE is equivalent to conventionally secure — IND-ID-CCA2-secure — IBE. That is the same shape of theorem as the one behind F-PKE’s object, and it is the reason an IBE functionality is a definition rather than a restatement: it says the composable notion costs nothing over the game-based one, which is not true of F-ABE one step up the generality ladder, where standard ABE is not composably secure against an active adversary.
The work appears twice: at VIETCRYPT 2006 (LNCS 4341, pp. 337–353) and as a journal version in IEICE Transactions on Fundamentals E91-A(1), pp. 262–271, January 2008.
Why it is not transcribed
Neither version is obtainable. It is not on the Cryptology ePrint Archive — searched by title, by author and by the equivalence result. The Springer chapter and the IEICE and J-STAGE journal pages are paywalled and return HTML rather than a PDF. The authors’ own publication list names both versions and offers no full text for either.
The rule this site is held to is that you never cite a version you did not read, and never transcribe a definition you have not seen. A box written from the abstract and from secondary descriptions would be exactly the fabrication that rule exists to prevent — the most damaging thing an entry here can produce, because it is the least likely to be caught. So the entry stops.
What would resolve this
- Obtain either version and transcribe it. This is a five-minute job for anyone with institutional access to Springer or IEICE, and it is the entire remaining work on this page. That is worth saying plainly: this is not a research gap, it is a library-access gap.
- Find a later paper that reprints \(\mathcal{F}_{\mathsf{IBE}}\). Functionalities are often reproduced “for completeness” by papers that build on them, which is how F-CKE’s box would have been recoverable had its source been closed. No such reprint was found here, but the search was not exhaustive.
What is nearby on this site
F-ABE is the generalization, and its page carries a printed box together with the impossibility that makes IBE’s equivalence result notable by contrast. F-PKE and F-rPKE are the ordinary public-key case. None of the three is a substitute for the box this page is missing, and none is blended in.
